Being a "lone wolf commando" makes you look both stupid and like a total dick in team-based games.
Sure, there's the trust issue [this one time, first time playing Halo 3, some guy tried to drive me off a cliff], but if you play with sensible people who are there to actually have some fun, then being helpful to each other makes for a much more entertaining experience.

Pretty much, I'm always trying to help my team, infact, that's why I love team based gamemodes more than classic deathmatch style, the classic DM style never really works the proper way anyhow, there is always something breaking the flow of the game that way.
